Fighting Evil - lo

This week we had the Holocaust Memorial day in Israel. On this day, in particular, we do our best to remember the horror of the Holocaust.
My family did not went through the Holocaust, as they were all in Israel already (Palestine of those days). My dad joined the British Army - he joined the Jewish Brigade and he fought the Nazis. He also hellped illegal immigrants to come to Isreal with boats from Italy. This photo was taken at 1944, and ,my father is holding a grenade. On his shoulder, you can see the badge of the Jewish Brigade.
We are sworn to remember and forget nothing, and this lo is one of my ways to fulfill this oath, for my kids and their kids. Kind of personal and national memory keeping.

For the base, I used the backing of a dp pack, and inked the edges with distress ink.

For recycling I also made the letters from used cereal box, and so is the scalloped circle (I used it before for masking on this lo, and now I painted it in acrilic paint, and stamped it with Unity stamp and distressed the edges). I tore the dp and also inked it with distress ink. Stitches around the lo. as sort of a frame, and in the inner circle.
I used stary shaped eyelets, to give a little hing of the yellow badge, the jews were forced to wear during thr war.
I put a frame around the photo, which stands in a little twist.  Some rheinstones, floss and chipbaords.
The juornaling tells about my dad joining the British Army and about him fighting the Nazis and then helping other jews to come to Israel.

challenges:
heavy metal - #21 Quixotic (the eyelets)
stitching - #14 you next stamp; paper popsicles
floss it up - #52 scrap your crap
layout shopping list - #13 craftastic (on this lo: large monogram, cs background, circle, b\w photo)
rememberance - sisterhood of crafting
anything goes - penny's paper crafty
eyelets & string - #15 prairie fairy fridays
vintage - #43 die cuts dreams
3-D elements - #3 meljen's designs
die cuts - #89 creative belli (the frame)
for someone special - #24 hand full of stamps
something layered - stamp something
say it in words - #14 pile it on

Have a super duper weekend.
