Treasures from the sea - an altered frame for Art and Soul Challenge Blog

Today I would like to share with you an altered frame I've made for Art & Soul Studio challenge blog.

I was inspired by the current moodboard:

The frame looked like this:

I took the back out and covered it with Finnabair's black gesso, then I worked with a modeling paste and a stencil to give some texture. 

The next step was to color with Lindy's Gang sprays (Tainted Love Teal, Tibetan Poppy Teal, C'est la vie Cerise). Then I adhered trinkets, sea shells and molds, and colored them with Finnabair's acrylic paint - metalic light patina and mermaid sparkle.

The same way I worked with the frame itself, only this time the basis was Finnabair's white gesso.

After all was dry, I added more colros and depth with more Lindy's Gang sprays, this time adding some brownish hues (Shabby Turbine Teal, Afternoon Delight Denim, Clam Bake Beige, Fuzzy Navel Peach, Tawny Turquoise Vintage, Treasure Iland Aqua Vintage).

For the final touch, I added some Finnabair's mini art stones, to get the look of the sand, and some white gesso splatters, here and there.

So Amazing - Stuck?! Sketches Oct 15th reveal

Another post of mine, again with a DT project. this time it's a lo for Stuck?! Sketches new sketch challenge. here's the beautiful sketch, drawn by the talented Laura:

Fetured at Berry71Bleu

As you can see, I didn't use the hexagon shapes at all. instead I used leaves for my background and stamping, as you'll be able to see in the 'start to finish' video right at the bottom of my post.

For this lo I was inspired very much by the October moodboard at Berry71Bleu:

I really loved the rustic feeling and the color combo, and made my layout with this inspiration. 

Another challenge I was inspired by was the current challenge at Frosted Designs, which is fall colors, ink and bling. I have all 3 of them on my lo :).

My inspiration was the circles on the 1st inpiration photo and the earthly tones plus the word 'Beautiful' from the the 2nd inspiration photo.

I used some StudioFourteen40's goodies - a flair (Je T'aime set 2) and a vellum dot (Everyday dot set 2).

Family - Special Agent at CSI - case file #99

Case file #99 is up at CSI, with a warm and beautiful inspiration photo. I'm a Special Agent (i.e. Guest Designer) at CSI this month. I was inspired by the curains to make my own 'curtain' by pleating a dp, and tying a ribbon, as if it holds the 'curtain' open.

I love this photo of my sons, so close one to each other and so happy.

Here's case file #99 at CSI:

My clues to solve the case were:

Scheme - all 5 colors used.

Evidence - butterflies, fabric (a lace trim and a ribbon), wood, silver metal, something puffy (the flowers), drape something (the trinket key), pleats, 6 something (6 letter title, 6 butterflies, 6 different dp).

Testimony- I was inspired by  'SixWords Memoir' for my sub title ("No other bond like this one"), which I've put on stripes. On the back of the page I wrote about how inpmortant and valuable are family ties, and how one should cherish and hold on them.
I really love how my 'curtain' came out, and how the butterflies are hanging on it.

דף נוסף שהכנתי כמעצבת אורחת ב-CSI. הפעם עם פלטת צבעים מאד חמה ומזמינה, ועם תמונה נפלאה להשראה. האלמנט שהכי תפס את עיני בתמונה, והיווה את ראשית ההשראה לדף הזה, היו הוילונות הכתומים. החלטתי ליצור וילון מנייר, ולקשור במרכז הקיפולים סרט, המחזיק את הוילון מוסט. מכאן כבר התגלגל המשך העיצוב של הדף. עבדתי עם מסיכה ומשחת עיצוב על שתי הפינות השמאליות של הדף, וגם זה נותן קצת אשליה של חלון ממוסגר. הפרפרים התלויים על הוילון מדגישים את האווריריות, ביחד עם התחרה העדינה שמבצבצת מתחת לדף בדיגום של לוחות עץ. אני אוהבת את הניגודיות שבין החספוס של לוחות העץ לבין התחרה העדינה והרומנטית.

case file # 92 at CSI

for their October's sketch

I've made this lo for case file #92 at CSI using October's sketch from C'est Magnifique, and the mood board at Scrap Around The World.

My main inspiration from this mood board was the pastel colors and the shabby chic style of some of the photos. I was also drawn to the lace glasses with the light pink flowers, and to the dotty jug. love the calm and soft atmosphere of this mood board, just like the sunrise time :).
And here's case file #92 at CSI:

A very soft and feminine color palette. When I looked at the prompts ('my full name and how it was decided on'), I new I'll scrap this sunrise photo, because the name my parantes gave me has something to do with sunrise.

The palette just 'screamed' Prima's Delight collection, so I used some products from this collection, along with some other Prima's products.
The clues I used to solve the case were:
Scheme - all colors used.
Eveidence - pearls, book pages, something that dangles, charms, lace, distressing, stack elements.
Testimony - I chose one of the prompts and in my jouranling I copied a part from a letter my late Dad wrote to me when I was 16 years old. In this part he explains why he and Mom gave me my name. at that time there was recession and my parents' economic state was very bad. Also my Dad had his 1st heart attack  (which was very severe) and was unable to work. they were very depressed. And that's what he wrote to me (in free translation): "The period before you were born was such, that you almost were born orphan. And then you were born, and by giving you your name we expressed the big hope that has risen in our hearts. Your Dad".
The journling is on a hidden tag, tacked between the layers, with only the butterfly charm on the top showing.

האתגר השבועי ב-CSI, עם פלטת צבעים מאד פסטלית ונשית, פשוט צעק: "Prima Delight" (הדף הזה, וגם זה, והקישוט הזה, וגם הכפתורים הללו- לדוגמא), אז נעניתי לקריאה :)). השתמשתי גם בסט חותמות תיפורים של פרימה, שהוא פשוט מוצלח מאד ומאד שימושי.

הדף הזה החזיר אותי לעיצוב שאבי-שיק, עם הרבה דיסטרסינג וריבוי שכבות, אבל עדיין עם מיקסד מדיה - הרקע נבנה מדפי ספר ישן שנצבעו עם distress stain picket fence וג'סו, ומעליהם עבדתי עם מסיכת עיגולים של סטודיו קאליקו ומשחת עיצוב עם  מרקם חולי והחתמה בחותמת הזו של פרימה. בנוסף עבדתי גם עם מסיכה TCW Ledger ואבקת אמבוסינג לבנה.

בשכבות השתמשתי בניירות המדוגמים של פרימה,הרבה פרחים, גאזה, תחרה מוילון ישן וחיתוכים בביג שוט של דוילי וענפים מסולסלים קטנים.

התמונה צולמה מביתנו, קצת אחרי הזריחה בבוקר של חודש יוני לפני למעלה משנה. המראה של הערפילים שהיו בואדי בין ההרים נתן ניחוח קל של הרים באירופה.

So Cool! - GD for Scrap Africa

I was very thrilled when my lo 'Strike a Pose' lo was chosen as one of the Top at Scrap Africa  for their 'Blue/Green and White challenge , and I was very honored when Denise asked me to be their Guest Designer for October 1st challenge.

I was asked to make a lo based on this sketch from Page Maps:

The photo is of my youngest, about 18 months ago, at the beach. 

For the background I used CW bricks mask with modeling paste and then I maked the 'bricks' with another CW circles mask, to mimic the pebbles in the photo. I used some lace, zig-zag trim, star and film strip die-cut (both Sizzix TH Alternations). I also used some gauze, and  placed some metal embellishments on it, as if you've found a treasure comming out of the sea.

זכיתי במקום ראשון בבלוג של Scrap Africa באתגר של כחול/ירוק ולבן, עם הדף הזה, והוזמנתי להיות מעצבת אורחת שלהם החודש, עם אתגר סקיצה.

עבדתי עם תמונה של צעיר הבנים בחוף הים, שצולמה לפני כשנה וחצי. הרקע מורכב ממסיכה של לבנים עם משחת עיצוב, ולאחר שהמשחה התייבשה, החתמתי אותה עם מסיכה נוספת של עיגולים, כדי לדמות את חלוקי האבן שעל חוף הים. השתמשתי בתחרה ובסרט זיג-זג ובחיתוך של סרט צילום שנעשה עם ידידי הביג שוט. הוספתי גם תחבושת עליה מיקמתי כמה קישוטי מתכת, כאילו מצאת אוצר שנפלט מבין גלי הים.

My fur babies

It has been like ages since I've made a multi-layers vintage style layout, and I really missed it :).

This is my take on the combined challenges - case file #38 at CSI and Once Upon A... Sketch:

Till a little more than 10 years I had two dogs, a female and a male. I took them both on the same day from SPCA, and they were both 6 weeks old. They've been with me for several years, and in many ways I still miss them. after all, they were my fur babies.

My clues to solve the case were:

Sketch - check;

Scheme - all 5 colors.  I mixed and matched dp from many manufacturers - MME, BasicGrey, Fancy Pants, Cosmo Cricket, Bo Bunny; trinket - Bo Bunny; chipboard and alphas - Echo Park; distress inks - TH Ranger); flowers - Prima and my stash; misc. ribbon, pearls, mask - my stash.

Evidence - branches, a bird, flowers, newsprint pattern, dog accent, woodgrain.

Testimony - document something about a pet. my journaling says: "Podi & Zeide (i.e. my dogs' names) were 6 weeks old when I took them both on the same day from SPCA. I took care of them with lots of love and concern. they were my babies".

נראה שחלף זמן רב מאז שהכנתי דף מרובה שכבות, בסגנון וינטאג'י, עם הרבה דיסטרסינג, אז הנה חזרתי לכך :).

ושוב ההשראה באה מהאתגר המשולב ב-CSI וב-OUAS. אהבתי מאד את שילוב הצבעים המרוכך, כשהחום שוקולד נותן את הקונטרסט. 

אחת מהדרישות האופציונליות באתגר הייתה לתעד משהו שקשור לחיית מחמד. זו הייתה הזדמנות מצויינת לדף על התינוקות הפרוותיים שהיו לי עד לפני קצת יותר מ-10 שנים. שני כלבים, זכר ונקבה, שאת שניהם לקחתי באותו יום ממש מצער בעלי חיים. הם היו בני 6 שבועות וגידלתי אותם בהרבה אהבה ודאגה. במובנים רבים אני מתגעגעת אליהם גם כיום. אין לי ספק שהילדים שלי היו מאד אוהבים אותם ונהנים מהם.

שילבתי בדף הזה דפים וקישוטים של הרבה מאד חברות - MME, Fancy Pants, BasicGrey, Bo Bunny, Prima, Echo Park, Cosmo Cricket.  הוספתי גם כמה פרחים וסרט של עלים מהאוסף הפרטי, והשתמשתי במסיכה של עלים ופרחים על הדף הלבן של הרקע.

הדפים עברו כולם את הטיפול המסורתי של דיסטרסינג מסיבי, וכך גם התמונה עצמה. הגיוון הוא שמכשיר הדיסטרסינג בו השתמשתי הפעם הוא.............. פצירה גדולה שבמקור מיועדת לשייף את העור היבש והמת בכפות הרגליים... וזאת עד להגעתו של מכשיר הדיסטרסינג המהולל של Prima. כזכור, זה שאין זו לא סיבה לא להשתמש. רק צריך לאלתר. ולכן הדף הזה מתאים גם לאתגר הקוסמטיקה של "יוצאות מהקווים".

במסגרת איסוף החומרים לדף הזה, הצטברו לי הרבה חומרים בגוונים הללו, ומאחר שהשילוב מאד מצא חן בעיני, מן הסתם תראו בקרוב עוד דפים בפלטת הצבעים הזאת, או קרובה אליה.

תודה על תשומת הלב וסופ"ש נפלא, שמתחיל את החופשה הארוכה של סוכות... אנחנו מתכננים לטייל הרבה, לפגוש משפחה וחברים ובעיקר לעשות חיים. מה התוכניות שלכן לחג?
