Fun & Laugh Together lo

I made this lo with this week's sketch over Sketches in Thyme. Here is the sketch, by the tallented Helen Croft, from Scrap-a-little:

It was also made for this month challenge over From Screen2scrap challenge, where the inspiration came from this movie's poster:

And you need to use red & yellow cs, black title, and a handprint somewhere on the lo. I've covered all 3 criteria. The handprints are a matting for the title and they are my kids', who enjoyed very much to take part in making this lo.
I also included a "Hamsa" shaped photo. Hamsa is a popular middle east amulet. The belief is that Hamsa can protect you from the evil eye, and so is the red color, so I painted the edges of the Hamsa shaped photo with some red acrylic paint... (just in case...).
I'm also entering this lo for the multiple photos challenge over Scrap and Stamp. For me, more than 2 photos in a lo, is already a challenge.
The photos were taken on the summer 5 years ago, but the colors of this lo are totally autumn's, so I'm entering this lo also for this challenges that called for fall/autumn's colors: anything goes; #36 paperplay; #69 allsorts

We just got home back from a holiday vacation. It's the Jewish new year, Rosh Hashana, and we've been at my mom's home for the holiday. We traveld to a magic place called Rosh Hanikra grottoes, which is on the Israel-Lebanon border. It's one of the most beautiful places in Israel. Here are some of the photos I took over there (I guess a lo with some more will be done pretty soon... LOL):

A magic place, I told you... Thanks for stopping by and for all your lovely comments. I really appreciate it.

Hexagon card

I've made this card for the "shape up" challenge over 365 cards. I used the great template from Mirkwood designs.
In the inside I stamped with chalk ink but I couldn't get a good photo of it, and later I already wrote a very pesonal things inside, so I couldn't uplaod it anymore... LOL
I used a ribbon I had for a long time and a new dp, so I'm entering this card also for the 'old meets new' challenge over the shabby tea room.
The flowers on the dp are partly flocked and partly glitterd.
And some other challenges:
flowers & ribbons - rrr; #7 paper jewels
material world - #38 fab 'n' funky

Thanks for stopping by!

An altered frame with a tutorial - how to distress with a candle -

This altered frame was made with the inspiration of the photo challenge over Frosted Designs:

I took the pink, blue and white colors from the photo (with a little touch of green). The other things from the photo that inspired me were, of course, the flowers, and the like a frame look of the balkony.

I'm enering this altered frame also for the following challenges:
pearls & lace - simon says; #34 fff
material world (lace) - #38 fub 'n' funky
distressing - #28 artful inkables
vintage - #13 creatalicious; #bunny zoe's crafts
old & new - #25 tstr (old look, new butterfly sticker)

I did the distressing of the wooden frame with the candle technique, and since I've been asked before about this technique, I decided to make a little tutorial on how to make it.  Here it is:
The materials: a wooden frame, acrylic paints (preferable in two contrasting colors), a brush, a sand paper, a candle.
Step 1:
Color the wooden frame with the base color all over (I chose brown).

Step 2:
Scrub the colored frame with the candle in different places, especially at the edges and the  corners. Clean the leftovers of the candle.

Step 3:
Color the frame with the other color  all over (I chose vintage white).

Step 4:
Scrub the frame with a sand paper. You should follow the places where you scrubed with the candle before.

And this is what you should get:

Another look:

And a closeup on a corner:

For the embellishments I stamped the frame, added lace, pearls, prima flowers and a butterfly sticker.

Now it's your turn to make an altered art, using this technique. It's really simple and the outcome is great.
If you do make something based on this technique, I'd love to see it, so leave me a comment on this blog, so I can look and leave you some love :).

Thanks for stopping by, and have a wonderful weekend!

A CAS flourish card

Today is the last day of summer vacation, and tomorrow the kids are going back to school/kindergarten.
Thank you all for your warm wishes on my last post. Things turned our pretty well with my youngest and I hope that with time everything will be just okay.
I made this card last night for the sketch over 365 cards. I really liked the sketch, but I just couldn't even think about snowman... LOL Here is the sketch:

And the other challenges I'm entering this card are:
no punches - #127 cute card thursday (the flowers were hand cut from a dp).
ribbon - for fun
fussy cutting - #18 just scraps
ribbons & flowers - #7 paper jewels

Now I'm off to celebrate the end of the vacation with my kids!
Thanks for stopping by!

Love Rules

These photos were taken at my best friend's yard, about 4 years ago, but the date is really not so important. All that metters is the title. It has always been the most important thing, and it has even more emphasis these days.
The past months were very stressful for me, mostly concerning my youngest (yes, that sweet little pie laying in my arms...). I do hope we've come to the end of this period, with more answers and certainties, so I can get the best treatment for him. Tomorrow will be a crucial day, so please cross your fingers for us.
And yes, this lo was made with all my thought, fears and hopes concerning my two adorable kids, the apple of my eye.
I was caught by this week's challenge over Scrapping the Music, which is "Love Shack", so I knew that I will have this title for my lo. As I finished it, I had in mind an Israeli song, named:  "Only love will win/overcome", and part of this songs says: "only love will overcome all the tears". Oh my, so much tears I've had this past months! But, as these songs say: Only love will over come, and love rules....

I used the sketch from one of my fav challenge blogs: Sketches in Thyme, a sketch by the talented Helen Croft:

I also combined it with the challenge over Frosted Designs (one of my favs too...), which was circle with decorative edges (and I wasn't the only one combining those two challenges... LOL). I used a big doily in the center, and 3 small one that I crumpled to flowers. In the center of each one I adhered crochet flowers I've made myself (and so are the green leaves under the upper flower).
I used MS doily lace border punch and a lace ribbon. Added some pearls pins on one of the flowers, and pale blue pearls on all of them. I also put some butterflies and heart shaped buttons.
The cardstock is dark blue (not black..) and it was too dark for me, so I stamped lots of swirls with ivory acrylic paint.
Did you notice that cute little heart charm, tied to the "s" letter? And the use of a Fiskars border punch on one of the photos? I saw it at an Israeli talented scraper, Ilanit's blog, and I just loved it, so I scraplifted it (you should really look at her creations. Very unique and creative!).

And the other challenges I'm entering this lo for are:
lace in stitches - #24 sisc
lace/ribbon - for fun
pearls - #86 crafty pad
peatal & pearls - #11 crafts and me
flowers (mine are handmade) - cowgirl's
crumbling plus buttons - #30 the character cafe
fussy cutting - #18 just scraps
ribbons & flowers - #7 paper jewels
handmade flowers - #20 craft your passion
buttons & bows - 56 incy wincy
buttons (plus stamping) - scrap and stamp
colors - design dollies; abc; #105 cupcake craft
monochromatic - #34 stampin royalty
dress it up (with something black) - #26 wo scrapfit
butterflies - #119 fluterby wednesday
wings - #5 a pocket full of posies; #2 cyda
anything goes - #13 the paper players; #1 ces
Thanks for stopping by!

My (old) HomeTown lo

Thanks to my blogy friend Tesa, I came across this wonderful challenge over GCD Studios, where they've asked to scrap our hometown.
I used the sketch from creative scrappers:

I was born and raised in Haifa, and my kids were also born there. We moved from there 2 years ago, and we all still feel there at home, this is our hometown.
I'm not sure if and when I'll ever feel "hometown" where we're living right now. I still miss a lot my old home town.
The journaling says so, and I mentioned the view I had all my childhood and as a grown up woman - high green mountain, deep blue sea, etc.
The big letters of the title and the chipboards are all GCD Studio (some of them were dressed up with dp's scraps, to match the lo's colors. can you tell which one of them?...). I used acrylic paint and some rubons and stickers for the small letters of the title.
The photo was taken on one of the most beautiful places in my hometown. We've had a lovely saturday over there.

I'm entering this lo also for the following challenges:
how sentimental - #95 one stop craft
stitching - #37 pixie dust studio (mine is faux, arond the page and as a frame for the photo)
opposite - day 181 365 cards (not a card, but still it is opposite... the cool colors of this lo are totally opposite to the heat over here... and anyway, being a rebel is THE opposite way, isn't it? Okay, Rose & Gloria, I'd bet you'd say that making a lo is my usual way, and I should make a card, any card, to fit to Pam's opposite theme.. LOL)
fussy cutting - #18 just scraps (mine are the clouds)
park inspiration - #67 allsorts
anything goes - #1 crafty ema's (congrats on the new challenge blog!)

Thanks for stopping by!

New beginnings, First Grade - lo

Where did summer vacation had gone?.... A new  week and summer vacation is coming to it's end. Next wednesday the kids are going back to school/kindergarten. The truth is that I have mixed feelings about it. In so many ways I wish summer vacation would last more now.... (Is that really me?! The mom that sayed that summer vacation should be much shorter... LOL).
And it's time for a new challenge at Simple Doodles (starting tomorrow, Friday), and naturally the challenge is: "Back to School".
The photo is of my eldest, on his first day at school, first grade, two years ago.

The sketch for this lo is from Stuck?!:

I saw this great challenge over "The Studio", which is to take 2 of your most "ugly", un-used dp and use them!!!  Here are the two dp I took:

I cut out stripes of circles from one of them, one of them was used to outline the title. For the other one, I used my decorative scissors, so it matched the edges of the patterns on the paper. To go along with the circle design, I stamped acrylic paints with a bubble wrap.
I used denim under the photo, and frayed the edges. I also used two paper clips and this tag, which says one of the things I wish for my kids.

The title says in Hebrew: New beginnings, and the sub title: First grade.

I really liked the idea of using those "ugly looking" dp, and I like the outcome. What do you think?

It also goes for the following challenges:
fussy cutting - #18 just scraps
back to school - frosted designs; #102 ann's creative nook; #33 pixie cottage (mine is for the theme); delightful challenges; #43 lrw; paper pretties; a crafty little place; abc designs
male project - #8 elephantastic (very unusual for me not to use any flowers, lace, butterfly, glitter, etc... LOL)
round & metal - #98 creative belli (lots of circles, one metal eyelet on the tag and the paper clips)
metal - #24 the shabby tea room; #12 paper romance; #44 if the shoe fits
say it with shapes - #27 osaat
paint - #66 gingersnap
not a card - #94 oscc; #18 I did it creations;
texture - totally stampalicious (mine are: fabric, acrylic, metal, the puffy title)
anything goes - #8 aud sentiments; #21 digi doodles ; shop's best; #55 paper cutz

Thanks for stopping by!

Some peace - lo

This photo of mine was taken years ago, on August 1995, on a Bre' mountain nearby Lake Lugano. It is one of the most peaceful places I've been to. On that journey I visited Lugano twice: On my way from Italy to Swiss, and then once again when I crossed the Alps back to Italy to return home. I just had to stop there once again and come back to that particular spot on Mount Bre'. Looking at these photos, and I think you can perfectly understand me. The title of this lo says in Hebrew: Peaceful.

When I look at my crafty works lately, I might say I'm in my 'blue period'... To my lately regular color combo, blue, brown/kraft and cream/white/ivory, I added this time some greenish shades. I think the color combo of all of them turned awesome.

The lo was based on the sketch over sketches in thyme. I just love the sketches Kim brings every week, and they have a very tallented bunch of ladies for DT's. Here is the sketch:

I stamped over the dp with two of my fav stamps, and they just match the swirled pattern on the dp.

I just love this ribbon flower! So easy to make, so wonderful effect. The tutorial how to make it is here. And what do you think about that charm and key? I love love love them. I also liked the look of that zipper, with all the branches flourishing out of it.

I used chipboards (the brown flower and the brackets of the journaling), brads (the glittered green one on top of the Prima aqua flower, and with the key on the left bottom corner), a key diecut, a green button with metal embellishment on it and a metal corner (left upper corner). The small butterflies are also metalic.

I'm entering this lo to the following challenges:
butterflies/with wings - #81 crafty creations; #2 craft your days away; #5 pfof (with flowers);
buttons & butterflies - #46 crafty catz
metal - #44 if the shoe fits; #24 the shabby tea room; #12 paper romance#98 creative belli (round & metal - mine are brads, buttons, corner, key, charm, small butterflies)
therapy - #59 resq (scrpping is kind of therapy...  the place the photos were taken, the color combo)
dress it up! - #26 scrapfit (plus use some black - mine is the matting of the photos and the big butterfly)
ribbons & flowers - #7 paper jewels
buttons & bows - #56 incy wincy
ribbons & buttons - #4 lollipop crafts
sparkle & shine - creative card crew;
anything but a card - #94 one stop craft; #18 idic
anything goes - #55 paper catz#45 stampin for the weekend (with a stamp - mine are the swirls);
isn't she lovely - #18 city crafter
recipe (chipboard, journaling & circles) - #21 ella's pink scrapbook
scrap something that you love (plus stamping) - scrap & stamp (gotta love myself, isn't it... LOL and that wonderful peaceful place - Monte Bre', Lugano)

Thanks for stoppinb by!

This is my second post today. For my Italy mini notebook's post, see here.
