On the 'Watch List' at CSI

April 1st challenge at Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge is up, with a wonderufl prompt - "scrap or art journal about a favorite pastime from your youth. Was it a sport, fishing, cycling, reading or teasing your older brother?". 

So I took an old photo of my brother and me, playing is a natural pool on a summer vacation. I think it was 1968 or 1969. 
It was also a perfect match with case file 116 at CSI, as one of the testimony options was to be inspired by a song title or lyrics for the journaling. My title says, in Hebrew: "We were kids, and it was so long ago", and it was taken from a very beautiful Israeli song, talking about childhood memories of the singer, Yossi Banai' who grew up in Jerusalem. I used the sketch from Scrap365, only turned it to the side, but I think you can still see the sketch in my page:

I was inspired by the work of two very talented scrappers: Georgia Heald and Sanna Lippert. If you are not familiar with them, you should do yourself a favour, and pop over to their blogs, trust me you won't be disappointed.
I would like to enter this lo also for the 'Vintage with a twist' challenge at Orange Paperie&Co.  You should pop over to see what beautiful creations are posted there, and they're so much friendly :).
Anyway, here's case file #116 at CSI:

My clues to solve this case were:
Scheme - all colors are here.
Evidence - music elemnts (music notes stamp on the background), circles, metal, buttons, labels, use something that runs on electricity to make your layout (having a mixed media lo, I sure used my heat gun a lot...), diagonal cross-hatch pattern (a stamp on the background and on the right bottom corner).
Testimony - inspired by the song lyrics, I wrote about fun vacation memories from my childhood: "Sleeping in a tent, jumping to the cold water, floating inside tires at the pool, pulling out air from vehicles' wheels, and then running to hide behind Mom&Dad's back, oh our family's summer vacations, simple yet so enjoyable."

My take on #22 case file at CSI. The photo is of my youngest and I, when he was 5 months old. The hidden journaling is one of my longest ones. I wrote about my son's special way in this world, with his special personality. I also wrote about (some of) my wishes for him.

My clues to solve the case were:

For the eveidence - patterned ribbon (the dotty one), corrugated (white) cardboard, border punch.

For the testimony - I added trim to my journaling spot and wrote about 3 of my wishes for my son.

Finally Snow (a long cold winter) - GD for Scrap It With A Song

I was invited to be a Guest Designer for April at Scrap It With A Song, and I was very happy about it. Songs are a great inspiration for me in my life, and for my scrapping.

For April, SIWAS has a wonderful songs to inpire you and I hope you'll join us in the fun.

The 1st song is 'Here Comes The Sun', by the Beatles. Noramally, one would think of a springy theme for a layout, but I wanted to remind us that before we see all this glorious blooming, we should say goodbye for the cold winter.

The photos are of my boys, playing in the snow only a month ago. we rarely have snow in Israel, and my boys were longing for snow to fall ever since we moved here. Finally, after almost 4 years, we had snow, and that is the title of my lo. With the subtitle I played with the word 'long' from the song - our winter isn't really long, but we longed for snow to fall.

My inspiration for this lo came from case file no. 13 at CSI:

I love this color palette! I think I will use it again.

For the evidence: a pinewheel, hearts, twine, jewels (rhinestones in the center of the pinewheel and the spiral flowers), spiral flowers (I've made them according to Wintam's tutorial)
For the testimony: the lo is all about my boys playing in the snow, with such a great delight.

דף מעוצב עם תמונות של הבנים שלי משחקים בשמחה ובאושר בשלג שצנח לו אצלנו לפני כחודש.

הדף הזה הוא  משימה כמעצבת אורחת בבלוג של Scrap It With A Song, אליו הוזמנתי לחודש אפריל. האתגר הראשון הוא השראה מהשיר של הביטלס Here Comes The Sun. היה מתבקש להכין דף עם נושא ואווירה אביביים, אבל בחרתי דווקא את השורה המדברת על החורף הארוך והקר (אצלנו לא כל כך ארוך, ובינינו - גם לא כל כך קר...), ותיעדתי בכיתוב את ההשתוקקות (משחק מילים על המילה long) של הילדים שלי (וגם שלי...) שירד כבר שלג, כזה שנערם.

האתגר הנוסף לו הכנתי את הדף הוא אתגר המשלב כמה נושאים - פלטת צבעים, אלמנטים וכיתוב.
הפרחים הצהובים המקופלים הוכנו לפי ההדרכה הזאת של WINTAM.

מחר יהיה בלוג הופ באתגר של קיט החיקוי, שגם בו אני מעצבת אורחת לחודש אפריל. בבלוג הופ כל המעצבות יציגו את קיט החיקוי שהכינו. התמונה הקטנה למעלה היא הצצה לקיט הזה, שהוא אביבי להפליא. יהיה כיף ומעניין. תבואו (אחרי הסעודה הדשנה של ליל הסדר...).

Walk Naive, Walk One - lo לך תמים, לך אחד

I made this lo for the challenge at Once Upon A ...Sketch, which was a sketch plus a journaling criteria - writhe at least 2 sentences from the lyrics of your favorite song. Here's the sketch:

Well, I have so many fav songs.... To explain my take on this challenge, I need to tell a little story, so please bear with me.  I took my youngest's photo when he was 2 years old (isn't he just a cutie?!). My little guy is a ADHD plus SPD, and he is a very challenging boy. One can not deal with him only with conventional parental/educational methods. I need to 'reinvent the wheel' each day from the begining, and find creative ways to help him. His path in the world is not an easy one, but it's definitely HIS OWN PATH.

Now for the song... The song's title is 'A Happy Prophetic Cosmic Song'... LOL Okay, it's very hard to traslate it, and for my lo's title I took one sentence from the song, and in free translation it means - 'walk naive, walk one'. The whole song speaks of having your own way, not interrupted by anything.

For the journaling, I took some other sentences from the song, which say, again in free translation: 

"Like the Milky Way that cross the sky,

You walk straight, not paing any attention to the stars,

That glitter just to blind the eyes.

Something inside yourself will tell you:

Go on with your way"

I feel that this song describe so well my beloved kiddo.

דף עם תמונה של צעיר הבנים, כשהיה בן שנתיים. האתגר היה סקיצה בצירוף ג'ורנלינג של משפטים מתוך שיר אהוב במיוחד. יש הרבה שירים שאני אוהבת במיוחד, ורבים מהם משמשים לי השראה. הפעם בחרתי בשיר של עלי מוהר ויוני רכטר, 'שיר נבואי קוסמי עליז', כי הוא מבטא עבורי משהו מאד מיוחד בקשר לצעיר הבנים.

לצעיר יש גם ADHD וגם SPD (קושי בויסות תחושתי, שפעמים רבות הולך עם ADHD, ולא תמיד יודעים לאבחן בין השניים), והוא ילד מאתגר ביותר. שיטות החינוך וההתמודדות הקונבציונליות לא ממש מצליחות איתו, וצריך להמציא את הגלגל שוב ושוב - מאתגר כבר אמרתי?  :-) 

אני מרגישה שדרכו בחיים לא פשוטה ומורכבת, אבל היא בהחלט דרכו הייחודית. נדמה לי שהתפקיד המרכזי שלי, כאמא שלו, הוא לעזור לו למצוא את דרכו שלו להשתלב, עם מורכבותו. והדגש הוא על "עם מורכבותו", ולא "חרף"....

ההצצה היא לדף חדש שהכנתי, אותו אעלה מחר, כמשימת ה-DT האחרונה שלי, הפעם ב-SKETCHES IN THYME (מורגש שאני חשה תחושת שחרור וחופש?....). הדף הוא בסגנון מאד שונה מהסגנון הרגיל שלי. אשמח אם תקפצו גם מחר לראות (ומותר גם להגיב... זה כיף לקרוא את התגובות שלכן).

It's another free week at Sketches In Thyme, i.e. you can use any sketch you like, as long as you use one.

I used the sketch from PageMaps, and I turned it so it will fit the photos and first lo:

It's the 2nd page for the page I've posted a week ago, about my youngest having fun at the amusement park, and so this lo does not have any title, rather include the journaling for the two pager.

The cs and the striped dp are DCWV; the stars and embroidered dp are October Afternoon.  The film strip is a stamp from Artistic Stamper I won a month ago:

The metal flower was made from cans lids', and here's the tutorial I've made for making it. Now, isn't it cool???

I hand stitched the dp to the cs and used MS border punch. The journling blocks were stamped (Autumn Leaves). Ric rac ribbons and stars embellisments are from my stash.

דף מעוצב חדש, משלים לדף שהעליתי לפני כשבוע. שניהם על בילוי של צעיר הבנים בקיפצובה. קארדסטוק ונייר מדוגם של פסים - DCWV; נייר מדוגם - October Afternoon (ממסטיקים); בורדר פאנצ' של מרתה סטיוארט, חותמת לג'ורנלינג (Autumn Leaves, גם כן ממסטיקים). רצועת הפילם - חותמת של artistic stamper, בה זכיתי לפני כחודש.

הפרח המתכתי הוכן מלשוניות של פחיות שתיה, והעליתי הדרכה ליצירתו כאן.  התפירה ידנית. סרטי הזיג-זג וקישוטי הכוכבים - מהאוסף.

Carmel Mountain - a lo in memory

4 ימים בערה האש האדירה בכרמל וכילתה למעלה מ-40 אלף דונם של חורש. 42 אנשים מצאו את מותם באסון נורא זה, רובם ככולם אנשי כוחות הבטחון וההצלה, ונפגעו רבים נוספים, חלקם במצב קשה. בין ההרוגים היו גם מכרים וחברים שלי. אין מילים לתאר את גודל האסון והכאב.

נולדתי בחיפה ושם גדלתי, שם גם נולדו ילדי. נופיו של ההר הירוק כל ימות השנה הינם נופי ילדותי. ההר שהיה ירוק כל ימות השנה, האדים בלהבות ועתה הוא מפוחם ושחור. יקחו עוד שנים עד שהטבע ישקם את עצמו. למרבה הצער והכאב, החיים שנגדעו - לא ישובו עוד. יהי זכרם ברוך.

הכנתי את הדף הזה כסוג של תרפיה ותיעוד עבור הילדים שלי. לקחתי כמה משלל התמונות שיש לנו מטיולים רבים ושונים בכרמל,  ומצאתי סקיצה של דף עם הרבה תמונות. כל התמונות הללו הן ממקומות שנשרפו. את דף הרקע הבהיר שרפתי בקצוות,  ויצרתי שתי וערב של קוביות עם דיו דיסטרס בשני גוונים. העלים החומים והירוקים, על דף הרקע ובשוליו, הם ראב-אונים.
בקובית כיתוב אחד תיעדתי בכמה מילים את סיפור השריפה, ובקובית הכיתוב השניה כתבתי כמה ממילות השיר "יותר מזה אנחנו לא צריכים". השיר הזה חזר והתנגן בראשי במהלך הלוויות.
שום כותרת לא התאימה לי וגם העיצוב של הדף כבר לא הותיר הרבה מקום לכותרת. המשפט שהכי מתאר עבורי את הדף הוא "מה שהיה ואיננו עוד".

מי יתן ונדע ימים טובים מאלה במהרה.

A few days after the horrible tragedy, where a big part of Carmel mountain was burned, and there's a lot of sadness and grief. 42 people were killed in that awful fire, among them people I knew and some were friends of mine.

I was born and raised there and my kids were born there.

I've made this lo in memory of those who were killed there and for the great nature that was destroyed.
I have lots of photos from our traveling in the area, and I took some and placed them in this multiple photos sketch - sketch #132 creative scrappers:

I took the natural colors as it represent nature. I burned the edges of the bright matting cs to mimic the fire. I've made the grid blocks with two colors of distress ink.
I used brown and green leaves rub-ons. There is no title for this lo, to describe what we've had and gone. The journaling says it all.

My Family, My Bliss, My Life - lo

At last it's Friday again!!  And it means a new challenge at Frosted Designs. This week our challenge is to use a large photo, so it takes at least 1/2 of your page. You don't have to make a lo, and you can also make a card, but your image should take more than 1/2 of the card.

For my lo, I used sketch #128 at Creative Scrappers:

  I enlarged this photo that was taken 2 months ago, on Rosh Hanikra Grottoes. I've done a lo before with a photo of my kids outside the grottoes, and this photo was taken inside. On the left side of the photo there was a lady, a stranger, and on the right side - a man, so instead of cutting the photo, I scrubbed it and then painted with acrylic paint. I stamped twice the journaling block on the acrylic paint. I like the look of the acrylic frame, it goes well with the cave and since it is white, it brightens the dark photo.

I stamped some swirls with red acrylic paint and followed some of the lines with red stickles, so it gives some texture and sparkle to the lo. On the swirls I  adhered some black pearls.

I used Melissa Frances' and 7 Gypsies' dp, some prima flowers, felt flowers and ribbon flowers. I also made the grunge  flower out of a book page with glimmer mist and a flower out of pipe cleaner with a button on top.

For the title I used mix of alphas - Mark Richards' velvet alphas, and chipboard alphas and My Little Shoebox alpha stickesr - both from a prize I won over Paper Niche.

I really liked the idea of using a large photo, and I just might make another lo with a large one pretty soon...

השבוע האתגר בבלוג של Frosted Designs הוא להשתמש בתמונה גדולה, לפחות 1/2 מהדף. לא חייבים להכין דווקא דף אלבום, ואפשר גם כרטיס, ובלבד שהדמות/חותמת וכו' יתפסו לפחות חצי משטח הכרטיס.

השתמשתי בתמונה מוגדלת מטיול שעשינו בראש השנה לראש הנקרה. משני צידי התמונה היו דמויות של זרים, ובמקום לחתוך את התמונה, קירצפתי את האזורים עם נייר לטש עדין, ואח"כ  מרחתי צבע אקרילי בשני הצדדים וכמסגרת  לתמונה כולה ובצד שמאל החתמתי פעמיים עם חותמת של קובית ג'ורנלינג. בנוסף החתמתי מערבולות עם צבע אקרילי אדום ועל חלק מהקווים חזרתי עם סטיקלס אדום, והדבקתי כמה פנינים שחורות בקצוות.

השתמשתי בהרבה פרחים מכל מיני סוגים - לבד, פרימה, סרטי משי וגם פרחים שהכנתי בעצמי מדפי ספר טלפונים ישן עם גלימר מיסט וממנקה מקטרות בצבע תכלת ועליו כפתור מסוג שפעם היו משתמשים לציפות (ואולי גם כיום...).

מאד מצא חן בעיני השימוש בתמונה מאד גדולה, וכבר הכנתי לי בצד עוד תמונה מוגדלת להשתמש בקרוב...

זה הזמן לשלוף אחת מהתמונות הגדולות או אפילו להדפיס אחת במיוחד, ולהשתתף באתגר הזה. יש פרס ממש מפתה של כפתורים מעוצבים מקסימים ועוד כמה קישוטים יפים מאד.

וביום ראשון אתן מוזמנות לקפוץ שוב לבלוג של Frosted Designs, להציץ בהדרכה שלי לפרחים עם מראה מיושן במקצת.

וגם כדאי לחזור אלי מאוחר יותר, לראות פרוייקט נוסף שהכנתי, הפעם לבלוג אחר בו אני אחת מצוות המעצבות....

The photo is of my eldest, 3 days after he was born. My brother holds my son, while my mom puts her hand on his head. I gave birth on an emergency cs, and I was anesthetized, so I could see my little baby only a few hours after giving birth. I had to struggle with the nurses so they'll bring him to me, being unable to get up and get him by myself.

The minute I saw him, I just fell in the most profound love I've ever had.

That is what I wrote in the journaling. And the title says: "love from the first sight".

הדף הזה הוא עם תמונה של בני הבכור, 3 ימים לאחר לידתו. ילדתי אותו בניתוח קיסרי חירומי, תחת הרדמה מלאה, כך שיכולתי לראות אותו רק כמה שעות לאחר הלידה. הייתי צריכה לנדנד לאחיות כדי שיביאו לי אותו. ברגע שראיתי אותו, נכבשתי ברגש עז ועצום של אהבה, בעוצמות שלא ידעתי מעולם.

לעיצוב הדף השתמשתי באותיות מקסם שימושי, בקיפולי קווילינג, פרח שהכנתי מסרטי משי, לב מקרושה וסרטי תחרה, אורגנזה ומשי.

את הפנים של מפית התחרה חתכתי ומיקמתי את התמונה והדף המדוגם שמתחתיה כך שהם בחלקם מחוץ למפית ובחלקם מתחתיה, מעין הד לתהליך הלידה עצמו.

ממש נהניתי להכין דף וינטאג'י ורומנטי, אבל בשביל ועל בן...
